how it works
When a client commissions a mural, faux finish or a custom piece, a consultation is scheduled and ideas are exchanged. Fabric samples, wallpaper samples, and the style of furniture are all taken into consideration in creating your one of a kind piece of art. Most designs are done free hand and some created on paper and projected on to the wall. Should you choose to have something designed or samples created, there is a $75.00 deposit which will be applied toward the final cost. Once all of the decisions and details on the designs are final, a quote is given. If accepted the job is scheduled and the first half of the fee is paid up front.
Regarding faux finishes: Prices do not include materials (paint, glaze, plaster). Reason: Some people like to to use different types of paint which vary in prices. Under the assumption that surface is prepared (no holes, indents etc.), primer/sealer has already been applied, minimum: $250.00.
Upon request I will prepare "sample boards" for the faux project. If we already have samples that can be applicable for your project, I will present it with no additional cost. For new samples, there is a $15 fee for each style created up front. If the paint for the samples is not provided by the client it will represent an additional charge affront.
We look forward to reviewing our portfolio in greater detail during our consultation.
important criteria in choosing an artist
*Choose an artist with whom you feel comfortable - If you have a large-scale project this artist could be in your home for several days or weeks. You want to be sure they listen to you and your ideas and are willing to work with you. Many artists have a tendency to take over a project as if it were their own.
*Know exactly what you are getting from the artist up front - The last thing you want is a surprise when the bill comes. Before any painting takes place make sure they provide you with a detailed drawing of the design or faux finish sample along with a final estimate.
*View samples of their work before you hire them - Every artist should bring along a portfolio to your meeting or at least some samples of their work. Don't trust that "They can do it."
*Ask for references - It's a good idea to find out what their work characteristics are. A few questions you may want to ask - Were they messy? Did they complete the job when they said they would? Were they easy to deal with? Were there any surprise costs?

Questions & Answers
How much does it cost?
I am often asked how much a mural or faux finish might cost, even one we have done already. This is not a question that can be answered right away for several reasons. Every home is different, the size of the room, the texture of the walls, and the sheen of the paint. We find it best to paint on a satin sheen, and the smoother the texture of the wall the better. If the wall has more texture, it will take longer to paint, as well as making it more difficult for very detailed projects.
Is it expensive? What is included in the price for the project?
While we are aware of other artists charging very high fees, our customers are frequently surprised by both the quality and the value of our work. Unlike others, we offer our first consultation at no charge. Though we love our work, it is very labor intensive to setup and breakdown a mobile art studio. We provide our talent, experience and creativity at a very fair price for such a specialty trade.
We first take time to sit with you and find out what you want. After that, our work begins. It takes time to come up with sketches, ideas, and colors that work with your space. It may take weeks to come up with the final proofs. Sketch changes can be made until we find the right fit for you. The more detailed the mural, the more the cost will be. Once all the sketches are agreed upon, a start date will be scheduled. For murals, all paint and supplies are included in the quote. For faux finishes the paint is not included in the quote. Now that you understand the many variables involved, below are some price points to start at as a general reference.
